WHAT ARE UMIA’s AIMS AND OBJECTIVES?

1. To co-ordinate and promote the objectives of franchise motor dealers with a view to benefiting customers and developing the local motor industry.
2. To initiate, recommend and advise on national motor policy governing the operations, regulations, taxation and licensing of the motor industry.
3. To promote mutual and self- understanding among the motor dealers.
4. To compile and provide statistics and other information on the motor industry to its membership and the general public and to promote the industry's public image.

WHAT IS THE UMIA CHARTER?

It is a code of business conduct that all members must pledge, to primarily ensure that all customers of UMIA members receive the best possible services. The charter includes a systematic independent assessment of customer complaints against members. All members must subscribe to the principles of the Charter as a condition of the membership.

WHO RUNS UMIA?

An Executive Committee consisting of one representative from each member company being assisted by the Secretariat who provides secretarial, treasury, accounting, consultation, and information services. The Executive Committee annually elects and appoints a chairman and a vice chairman of the Association.

WHAT INFORMATION?

BULLETINS: The UMIA Secretariat produces regular member bulletins, which report important market trends, changes in legislation, news of UMIA activities, Executive Council and working group activities, and general exchange of views and ideas within the sector.

WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES?

UMIA promotes the Association objectives and participates in the preparation of National budget proposals, Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) and Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) developments, holds meetings and consultations with officials in Government ministries, parliamentary committees, Uganda Revenue Authority to explore ways and issues relating to the motor industry and also participates in road safety campaigns. We are also members of the Uganda Leasing Association (ULA).

HOW DO COMPANIES JOIN?

By Application. Any Company whose sole or substantive business is supply, distribution and provision of after sales support of new motor vehicles in the Country is eligible for membership. Application forms can be obtained from the UMIA Secretariat whose contact numbers are listed above.

ARE ALL MEMBERS EQUAL?

There are two (2) classes of membership: full and honorary. Full membership is intended for companies whose sole or major business is new motor vehicle distribution and maintenance. Full members are eligible for election to Executive Committee and are entitled to attend all general meetings, they carry and enjoy all UMIA obligations and privileges and have one vote.

HOW IS UMIA FUNDED?

By membership subscription uniform to all full member companies and paid quarterly in advance. Subscription amounts are set annually by the Executive Committee and the Committee reserves the right to raise additional levies for funding any special projects not covered by the normal operating budget.

CUSTOMER ASSURANCE

The UMIA symbol is a Quality Mark. It confirms that a company displaying it, is a member of the Association. It must be displayed, both outside the major offices and in a prominent place inside, as a pledge to uphold the principles of the UMIA Charter.
